ARCADE

a film by Kurt Vincent and Irene Chin

When most people think of Chinatown Fair back in the day, their thoughts drift back to the mid-Nineties during the resurgence of the American arcade, with the sounds of Hadoukens and Tiger-shot’s echoing amongst the huddled masses of gamers. But, I’m talking about way back in the day, before Street Fighter II. Now you’re probably thinking to yourself: “Wait a minute, there wasn’t anything before Street Fighter II!”, and in most contexts I’d agree wholeheartedly with you. However, CF super-turbo back in the day was actually a restaurant know as Port Arthur! While details are few at the moment, we know it resided at the old-school CF address of 7-9th Mott st, and judging from the Valentines Day post stamp, enjoyed at least a solid thirty-plus year run before becoming home to New York City’s premiere dojo of the delinquent.
